Beatport and ONErpm Brasil Launch Documentary Series With Mochakk to Spotlight Brazilian Funk Worldwide

Funk From Rio de Janeiro - Funk from Brazil - Beatport x ONErpm

Global electronic platform partners with ONErpm to elevate funk as an official genre and introduce its culture to international audiences

Brazilian funk has gained a major boost on the global stage. Beatport, the world's leading download platform for DJs and electronic music, officially recognized funk as its own genre in April. The move came through a strategic collaboration with ONErpm Brasil. It marks a historic step for the international growth and legitimacy of the sound born in Brazil's urban communities.

To celebrate this milestone, Beatport and ONErpm Brasil launched the documentary series “Funk do Brazil with Mochakk.” The project explores the origins, evolution, and cultural impact of Brazilian funk. It also connects Beatport's global audience with Brazil's thriving electronic scene.

“Seeing this culture come to life in a documentary that explains Brazilian funk to the world feels surreal,” says Toninho Silveira, EDM Strategy & Projects Coordinator at ONErpm. “This movement adds real value to Brazilian music culture as a whole.”

Hosted by Mochakk, the series travels through three key cities: Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Belo Horizonte. Each episode dives into regional sounds, subgenres, fashion, venues, and the communities behind the music. The tone stays energetic and personal, matching Mochakk's style. Artists featured include Dennis DJ, Mu540, Mac Júlia, and VHOOR.

Taking Brazilian Funk To The World

The initiative also reshapes funk's presence on Beatport. The genre now has dedicated charts, playlists, and improved discovery tools. DJs can purchase high-quality downloads directly through the platform. This visibility helps artists, labels, and producers reach global dance floors faster. “Funk is more than music,” says Bruna Rodrigues, Funk Project Manager at ONErpm Brasil. “It's a Brazilian cultural phenomenon that now has worldwide recognition.”

Produced jointly by Beatport and ONErpm Brasil, the four-episode series is now live. The project reinforces ONErpm's role in exporting Brazilian culture and amplifying independent voices worldwide.
